Job Description
James Steel Productions is looking for an experienced Deputy Stage Manager to come on board for an exciting new play making its London debut later this year.
Salary(pro rata):
£598.53/week during rehearsals
£702.08/week during performances
Hours: 6-day working weeks (Monday to Saturday); 8 shows per week
Contract Type: Fixed Term Contract - Full Time
Key dates are as follow:
Rehearsals 10th to 29th of November
Get-in: 1st December 2025
First Preview: 4th December 2025
Press Night: 9th December 2025 (tbc)
Final Performance: 10th January 2026
Candidates should have professional experience in a DSM role on book and operating QLAB lighting cues. Strong communication, organisational skills, and the ability to work calmly under pressure are required.
Job Requirements
Core Responsibilities
Create and update the book, including blocking, cues, and notes.
Call all technical and show cues during performances.
Operate QLab to run lighting cues during the show.
Maintain strong relationships across departments to support a positive and efficient working environment.
Work in line with all company health & safety, safeguarding requirements.
Skills Required
Previous experience as DSM on professional theatre productions.
Excellent cue-calling and script-marking skills.
Knowledge of QLab operation.
Confident in managing the rehearsal room and responding to the needs of directors and performers.
Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
Calm and clear under pressure, with excellent attention to detail.
