Job Summary
To assist the Chief Electrician in the management of the LX department efficiently and effectively in its overall duty of providing high-quality lighting, sound & AV support for all work staged at York Theatre Royal (YTR) or at another venue/on tour on behalf of YTR.
Job Description
Main Duties

To work with Directors and Designers to ensure that all YTR productions are realised effectively, efficiently and to the highest possible standards.

To plan and facilitate all lighting, sound and AV requirements and provide costings when necessary for designs, in liaison with the Chief Electrician.

To lead on all sound requirements for YTR productions and events, including Pantomime and to live mix performances as required.

To control expenditure, maintaining financial records within agreed budgets and reporting using the YTR agreed systems in consultation with the Chief Electrician.

When required to design lighting and/or sound for YTR productions for the appropriate fee.

To plan and oversee the rig and de-rig of lanterns, sound equipment, AV equipment and practicals for both YTR productions and events and visiting productions and events.

To create sound and AV recordings and effects to the highest possible standards.

To operate lighting, sound and AV equipment during performance and events.

To deputise for the Chief Electrician in their absence

To ensure effective and positive working relationships

To ensure the thorough induction of new staff and casual workers into the department

To monitor and maintain in-house electrics

To monitor and maintain the Theatre's emergency lighting system and assist with PAT testing

To monitor and maintain in-house electrics stock as required

To contribute to ensuring the good housekeeping of the department and the Theatre, as appropriate.

To attend meetings as required

To ensure all productions are presented to the highest possible standard.

To work with the Head of Production and Chief Electrician to achieve all environmental sustainability targets set for productions.

York Theatre Royal believes that the development of new audiences, especially younger audiences, is vital. All staff are expected to contribute in appropriate ways.

Job Requirements
Essential

Experience of live sound mixing, including radio mics

Experience with DiGiCo sound desks SD10 & SD11

Knowledge of sound and AV equipment and practice, including Qlab programming

Knowledge of lighting equipment and practice, in particular the ETC EOS family lighting desks

The ability to work accurately under pressure

The ability to think creatively

Computer literacy

Ability to read and interpret rig plans

The ability to work evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays

A genuine interest in theatre

Job Responsibilities
Desirable

Experience of working with a range of creative teams

Knowledge of current Health & Safety legislation

Knowledge of touring theatre

A full, clean driving licence
