Dance Coach
Full-Time Position
We are looking for our next Dance Coach to join our Coaching team! The main objective for the Dance Coach is to the choreography stays true to its original intent and ensure the artists are trained on how to perform dance routines in accordance with the established choreography. To do this, the Dance Coach must learn and master the choreography as originated by the Choreographer. The Dance Coach brings support to the Manager, Human Performance Services (MHPS), and oversees the Dance Captain and Cast of the show, as it regards to dance performance. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication to effectively coach.
The Dance Coach will have the opportunity to:
- Coordinate with Stage Management and the Performance team to implement training programs and schedules for the Artists;
- Determine staging, training and choreographic needs on a weekly basis;
- Train new Artists to perform the choreography and prepare them for their integration into the show;
- Integrate the new Artists and then follow up to ensure that their routine is consistent and precise over time;
- Coach Artists in all aspects linked to the dance performance, such as warm up, physical conditioning , workload and recovery.
- Provide the MHPS with regular progress reports and feedback concerning the training, development and choreography for the show;
- Teach dances class according to the various needs of the group;
- Actively participate in the Safety Committee/Emergency Responder trainings;
- Coordinate and implement any choreographic changes as required by the Senior Artistic Director;
- Write and submit weekly reports on Artists' progress, special media events, program shoots and other important information;
- Assist with the implementation of the choreography as assigned during special events;
- Work independently with characters and other Artists in the show;
- Help ensure continuous training of Artists, i.e. Actors, Acrobats, Ddancers and Musicians;
- Watch shows on a regular basis and give notes;
- Ensure the quality and efficiency of the rotation system for the Dancers;
- Collaborate with the Casting Department by participating in the audition process to ensure the replacement of Dancers;
- Understand the acrobatic content of the show ;
- Help stimulate the development and the artistic sensibilities of all Artists;
- Follow-up with the performance team on any injuries or health issues concerning the Aancers;
- Promote and maintain a healthy attitude within class and rehearsals and relating dancers concerns to the artistic management;
- Complete other job-related duties as assigned.
What does it take for this role? The following hard skills are the basics of what’s needed to be successful in this position:
- College diploma or professional training in a related field;
- At least four years of previous experience teaching dance at an advanced level in professional dance field;
- Qualifications to teach an ongoing advanced-level “company” class for professionals;
- Working knowledge of Microsoft applications;
- Ability to motivate and direct others;
- Ability to multi-task and possess exceptional organizational skills;
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken; French is an asset;
- Verification of the right to work in the United States for Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group, as demonstrated by completion of the Form I-9 upon hire and the submission of acceptable documentation (as noted on the Form I-9) verifying one’s identity and work authorization.
