DESCRIPTION
Barrington Stage Company, an award-winning professional theatre company located in the heart of the Berkshires, is seeking an experienced Costume Shop Supervisor to join our team in Pittsfield, MA. Work with world-class designers to coordinate construction, alteration, purchase, and rental of all required costumes. Oversee shop and wardrobe crew, and manage budgets. Strong skills in all areas of costume construction, and crafts, especially draping, are required. This position assists the costume designer and supports the costume staff for productions on our Boyd-Quinson Stage and St Germain Stage.

Responsibilities:


Read scripts and learn all aspects of the costume plot
Manage the Costume Shop to provide all costume support for productions and events throughout the BSC 2025 season
Coordinate with Stage Management to request and schedule all costume and costume-related fittings, and attend as necessary.
Collaborate with costume designers to determine show-specific rental packages from nearby and/or other regional theatres and costume rental houses as needed.
Accompany Costume Designer on local shopping trips as necessary
Consult with Production Management and the creative team to best meet the needs of the production and create accurate cost estimates to remain within budget
Accurately track expenses and provide expenditure reports to Production Management in a timely manner
Coordinate and manage the load-in and out of costumes alongside wardrobe and wig supervisors
Attend fittings and keep accurate notes on the fitting session including any necessary alterations and take photos of finished costumes to archive the final look.
Assist Costume Designer during tech rehearsals, keep accurate and up-to-date notes, communicate tech notes to costume shop staff, and help deliver costume pieces to and from the shop and theater.
Maintain the costume “bible” for each show including photos of each final look, fabric samples if constructed in the shop, notes on type and color of dye if used on garments, photos of jewelry and accessories, and where costumes were rented, borrowed or purchased along with the measurement sheet for each cast member.
Assist in the construction of costumes and accessories as needed.
Maintain costume shop and costume storage as well as organization and inventory of all areas. Must keep all areas clean and free of debris.
Help maintain a safe and healthy work environment. Follow all health and safety guidelines established by the theatre. Report any unsafe conditions or practices to your supervisor immediately.
Manage returns of unused purchases, rented, and borrowed costumes and assist with restocking items in costume storage
Maintains clear and consistent communication with Production Management and other Department Heads to ensure effective collaboration throughout the season

Skills:

Exceptional leadership, communication, and organizational skills and strong attention to detail
Strong knowledge of costume history and period
Strong knowledge of costume construction techniques and materials
Working knowledge of costume shop tools and equipment
Online research and purchasing experience
Accounting experience tracking expenses and credits
Ability to accurately budget and create cost estimates
Knowledge of locations and inventories of local fabric and clothing stores
Able to lift at least 30 lbs.
Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record

This position reports to the Production Management Team. It is a full-time, seasonal position
