Introduction

The Costume Shop Manager oversees the costume shop space, inventory, and stock; serves as a stitcher or tailor as needed; and manages costume rentals. This role collaborates with the Costume Designer and may act as the Costume Designer in their absence.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Stock Management

Procure supplies, including:
Fabric sourcing
Costume pieces (as needed)
Maintain inventory and replenish stock as necessary
Inventory Management

Catalog inventory
Handle donations (pick-up, receipt, and organization)
Launder, steam, and iron costumes
Maintain a detailed inventory of supplies
Customer Support and Sales

Oversee costume rentals, including:
Marketing and outreach
Customer interaction and communication
Shipping, receiving, and cleaning rentals
Tailoring and Costume Construction

Construct or tailor garments as needed
Shop Space Management

Clean and organize the shop
Other Duties

Perform additional tasks as assigned

Experience:

Working knowledge of theater and costume design
General knowledge of fashion history and periods
Familiarity with textiles
Specific Skills:

Sewing (machine and hand)
Pattern drafting
Tailoring
Fine motor skills
Strong communication and multitasking abilities
Proficiency with:
Web searches
MS Excel or Google Sheets
MS Access
MS Word
Email applications
Supervisory Controls
The incumbent plans and executes tasks within established parameters. They work in cooperation with the Costume Designer and Executive Director to set priorities, resolve conflicts, and interpret policies.
