Organizational Summary

Position Summary
Reporting to the Director of Production, this full time, exempt position supervises daily operations of the costume shop and its staff, including budgeting, purchasing, construction and maintenance for all productions in the theater season, as well as any interdepartmental collaborations within the organization.
Responsibilities
● Develops a budget based on preliminary designs and research for each production
● Manages labor and build schedules for the season
● Develops and supervises daily operations of the costume shop staff, including prioritization and assignment of multiple projects, managing fittings, and maintenance schedules
● Adheres to and enforces guidelines, taking a leadership role in fostering and maintaining a safe and healthy work environment for shop staff
● Collaborates with Costume Designers to realize their vision within the boundaries of established budgets and timelines
● Provides guidance and coaching for creating costumes that meet the needs of the performer, while maintaining quality and longevity standards
● Supervises and collaborates with Wardrobe and Wig staff
● Conducts regular shop meetings, attends staff + production meetings
● Collaborates with Audio, Lighting, Props, Scenic and Education departments to facilitate the needs of each production
● Attends technical rehearsals, as needed, including post-rehearsal notes sessions
● Hires, trains, directs, and assigns work for costume shop, wig, and wardrobe staff, including temporary over-hires
● Facilitates costume shop equipment and tool maintenance
● Facilitates incoming and outgoing rentals, donations, and loans of costumes in conjunction with other shop staff
● Makes recommendations on performance evaluations and hiring practices
● Manages purchasing accounts and associated paperwork on a monthly basis



Skills and Competencies
● Five (5) years of theatrical costume management / design at a supervisory level is preferred
● Bachelor+rsquo;s Degree or equivalent combination of education and related experience with theatrical costuming and sewing skills
● Management and communication style that empowers staff and promotes a positive, teamwork-based culture
● Ability to utilize soft skills to mentor the professional development of shop staff
● Demonstrates an ongoing commitment to Inclusivity, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility with an emphasis on understanding of cultural representation, gender expression, and a variety of body types
● Ability to safely use and maintain costuming-related machinery, including sewing machines (industrial + domestic), steamer, industrial iron, serger, washer + dryer, etc.
● Exhibits strong time management skills, and demonstrates a strong ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
● Familiarity with Actor+rsquo;s Equity Association guidelines and rules
● Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Suites
● Exhibits strong written and verbal communication skills and interacts with all staff, contractors, and vendors in a professional, inclusive, and respectful manner
● Capable of handling objects up to 50 pounds occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently

Compensation
This is a full-time, exempt position earning an annualized salary range of $61,000 - $65,000, in addition to a benefit package including health, dental, vision insurance plans, term life and accident policies, 401k retirement plan, flexible spending plan, paid time off, and more!
