Description:Devonshire Cultural Center offers various classes and events in all areas of the arts, including Theatre/Circus Arts. An instructor/birthday party leader with experience in leading circus arts is sought to teach one to two classes per week in addition to being available for periodic circus birthday parties as requested.There are perks for joining the SPD team? Pay: $17 to $27/hour depending on qualifications and experience Qualifications: Must be a mature, responsible individual at least 18 years of age. Must be creative, physically adept at demonstrating a wide range of circus techniques and enjoy working with youth ages 5 to 17. Prior instructional experience in the circus arts is preferred. A minimum of 3 years of training in circus arts, including aerials is required. Must be able to maintain and keep current certification in CPR, AED and first aide. Duties: Must be able to develop, organize, instruct, and supervise a well-rounded circus arts program. This includes being able to both demonstrate and instruct program participants in circus techniques which include but is not limited to: juggling, gymnastics, clowning/comedy, poi-spinning, hula hooping and aerials with silks, single point and/or double point aerial hoop, static trapeze, single point trapeze plus Spanish web. Works to develop the skills and interests of each participant; maintains a safe environment for all who are taking part in the class/party. Cooperates with the immediate supervisor in organizing and scheduling activities. Makes recommendations regarding needed materials/equipment/specialty items, etc. Responsible for proper set-up, clean-up and return of all supplies and equipment utilized during the program activities. Completes circus rigging orientation with Circus Director. Prepares a detailed lesson plan prior to the start of each class/party, as requested by supervisor or Circus Director. Prepares choreography, song and costume selection if needed for any showcase scheduled for the class. Distributes final class evaluations of the class/program to all registered participants. Maintains attendance records and reports. Performs other duties as assigned. Hours: Classes are generally scheduled for hte early evening on weeknights and during the day on Saturdays and Sundays with birthday parties during the day on the weekends. Classes and parties can be one to two hours in duration, including prep and strike time and the instructor would be assigned approximately one to two classes per week.
