Description:Part-Time After School Physical Education Circus Arts Enrichment Teacher$10.29-$11.94/hour The University Assisted Community Schools (UACS) program is seeking a circus arts enrichment teacher for our community school program working with students in grades 3-5. This position is part of the Performing Arts Program, which includes music, circus, theater, and dance classes. We are seeking a passionate individual with a strong background in physical education, occupational therapy, circus arts, and/or performance as well as a love for working with kids. An ideal candidate has experience with performance and/or production, working with children ages 8-11, is energetic, and has a flexible schedule. The selected individual will be required for circus and performing arts instruction. The individual will be expected to: work during the school year after school, provide supervision and classroom control establishing a productive learning environment for all, engage children in activities which result in academic and personal growth, attend occasional evening meetings with the performing arts team. Our vision is to empower children to become strong and confident individuals through the use of our arts programming. An ideal candidate will be able to work with other instructors to teach a variety of circus arts skills and create choreographed routines showcasing learned skills, lead group activities such as warm-up exercises and team-building games, and actively seeks out opportunities to engage with students during teaching time. An ideal candidate will be sharing their circus skills with students and helping students learn to perform the skills on their own. The teacher and students will have opportunities to showcase their work through twice yearly performances planned in collaboration with other performing arts staff. People with experience in movement coaching (dance, gymnastics, creative play & sensory development, etc.) are strongly encouraged to apply. Responsibilities include: ● Plan and implement daily circus enrichment lessons and activities for assigned grades 3-5 with the ability to integrate the curriculum with other performing arts subjects ● Set up and break down equipment used in daily lessons ● Direct students through a variety of physical activities, performance skills and hands on lessons ● Develop choreography and routines which enhance students’ learning and showcase their work ● Actively engage in ensuring the safety and success of every student during class time ● Perform other duties related to the UACS program such as supervising snack, evening meals or bus monitoring ● Supervise and successfully integrate volunteers in classroom support settings ● Implement and maintain established school-wide behavioral goals and expectations for students ● Break down complex skills or lessons into steps, providing opportunities for students to feel successful regardless of their rate of progression ● Availability to teach with regularity and reliability Minimum Qualifications: ● Bachelor’s Degree in Education, an arts related field or commensurate experience ● Basic knowledge of academic subject matter and arts related subject matter ● Two years experience working with elementary aged children Preferred Qualifications: ● Two years experience teaching or supervising children ● Two years experience working with diverse students in underserved populations ● At least two years of experience training in one or more circus discipline (including, but not limited to, floor acrobatics, tumbling, trampoline, juggling, unicycling, stilt-walking, hoops, aerial skills) ● Experience teaching skills in one or more performing arts discipline OR physical education, personal training, or occupational therapy Job Skills: ● Ability to work with students in large or small groups ● Willingness to learn basic circus skills and relay information to students ● Ability to make decisions pertaining to program, classroom management, student related concerns/issues ● Ability to manage behavior and resolve conflicts between students ● Ability to be flexible, challenge students, and celebrate their accomplishments ● Ability to work collaboratively with a variety of support staff and school personnel ● Ability to plan and implement collaborative lessons with team teachers ● Cultural awareness of immigrant populations ● Ability to work afternoon, evening hours and possibly some Saturday hours ● Excellent communication and team building skills ● Willingness to participate in group activities with students and staff ● Ability to lift up to 20 pounds
