Description:Full job descriptionJob Summary The Aerial Arts Instructor is responsible for providing excellent aerial arts instruction in a safe and fun environment. The Aerial Arts Instructor participates in all aspects of the Sweet Peas’ aerial program and helps ensure that the Aerial Arts department is effectively carrying out Sweet Peas Gymnastics’ vision. The Aerial Arts Instructor is responsible for providing lateral support to the program as needed and contributing through choreography, music selection, costuming, staging, and the creation and teaching of new programs and class offerings. The Aerial Arts Instructor is expected to establish and maintain excellent interpersonal relationships and forthright and timely communications with other departments, customers, and the owners. Most importantly, the Aerial Arts Instructor is responsible for following practices that promote safety, quality, and professionalism. The Aerial Arts Instructor reports directly to the Sweet Peas Gymnastics Director. Responsibilities Teach aerial arts classes Enthusiastically assimilate and teach assigned curriculum for each class/program incorporating skills to be mastered, weekly goals and objectives leading to the mastery of the required skills, and themes to facilitate learning and enjoyment Competently learn, study, train and become proficient in the skills required for each level, the progressions taught at each level, and skills necessary for all classes within the aerial arts program Regularly and consistently teach classes as assigned understanding the importance of consistency in the learning environment and recognizing that Sweet Peas Gymnastics has high expectations/strict limitations with respect to employee absences and punctuality Provide for the growth and development of each athlete Regularly communicate learning objectives to parents through oral communications, written evaluations, bulletin board, handouts, etc Effectively conduct written athlete/aerial arts evaluations (if asked to do so) for each student as scheduled - in a timely, accurate and detailed manner Assist in ensuring that aerialists are successfully recognized and joyfully promoted pursuant to the evaluations and certificates and assist in coordinating the promotions Pro-actively facilitate athlete/aerialist recognition including personal recognition, recognition to parent, certificates, evaluations, promotions, tangible rewards (stickers, stamps) etc Support and participate in Sweet Peas special events Participate in the planning, promoting, teaching/staffing and overall success of Sweet Peas Gymnastics special events (shows, recitals, exhibitions, Family Fun Day, city events, camps, fairs, school events, field trips, etc.) Assist your department manager in meeting the goals and vision of the department Attend department and gym-wide meetings Read department and inter-department written communications Be attentive and responsive to department and gym wide announcements, calendar items, and upcoming events Be responsible and committed to showing up ready to teach your classes as often as possible for the better happiness and success of your child athletes and families Be flexible with your scheduling and teach classes as requested and substitute for other when called upon Exemplify integrity and character Conduct yourself so that supervisors, co-workers, students and parents can always rely on your word Be honest, truthful and accountable in your work and relationships at Sweet Peas Gymnastics. Be thoughtful towards others in your actions, direct and indirect communications, and outlook. Experience 2 - 4 years experience teaching in a youth Aerial Arts environment 5+ years participation in Aerial Arts as an athlete Relevant choreography experience with a wide spectrum of gymnastics routines (including routines for preschool, academy and team programs) for use in instructional aerial arts settings as well as performance settings 1-2 years relevant experience participating in or teaching large aerial arts and/or performance events including gym-wide performances, theatrical productions, recitals, and public performances Relevant experience planning performance events; scheduling; selecting and procuring music; cutting music; choreographing routines; teaching routines; procuring venues; selecting, fitting, ordering, distributing costumes and props; promoting events through personal promotion, marketing, ticket sales, etc; and a proven ability and desire to otherwise participate in all aspects of aerial arts performance events Current CPR Certification Current First Aid Certification 6 Childhood Education Units Specific Job Duties Wholeheartedly embrace and promote Sweet Peas Gymnastics’ vision Actively research, study and learn job duties, employment policies, and the overall expectations of an Aerial Arts Instructor at Sweet Peas Gymnastics the Employee Handbook and successive editions and remain current in all employment expectations Learn, study, train and become proficient in the skills required for each level, the progressions taught at each level, and how skills are taught and evaluated Review and understand operational and administrative policies relative to the aerial arts program such as pricing, dates, special events, ancillary programs, advancements, etc Attend required training events (a minimum of three Sweet Peas sponsored or approved events) per year Understand and embrace the Sweet Peas way and culture Come to work healthy, well groomed, enthusiastic, prepared, energetic and happy Review and understand Enthusiastically assist and cooperate in ensuring all classes are adequately covered by substituting when called upon Join Sweet Peas Gymnastics in making a positive impact on our community's health and wellness through engaging Aerial Arts Silks instruction and expert and FUN guidance!
