Description:Swing Circus Theatre Performance Company is looking for exceptional natural movers with a high level background in circus and or dance for the redevelopment of their newest show ‘In Colour’.Directed by Deborah Baddoo and Steve Marshall, In Colour looks deeply into identity and racial inequality, told within the framework of the history of Jazz dance. 181019 group shot opener web.jpg In Colour is a semi abstract narrative piece, set in the era of the Harlem Renaissance. It requires highly expressive artists that can articulate emotions through movement. An uplifting show with a strong message. Choreographed by Lana Williams, In Colour, fuses contemporary circus disciplines with vernacular Jazz dance, (what's that? click here) including Charleston and Lindy Hop. Requirements: We are looking for performers for our upcoming residency in April - May 2021, with performances scheduled throughout 2021 (tbc). You should have very high level skills in your chosen genre with a captivating performance quality and a willingness to learn and develop new skills within dance and circus. You don’t need to have experience in Lindy Hop or vernacular jazz dance but you should be a physically strong and a naturally grounded mover who can adapt to other art forms well, including basic acrobatics. Applying as a dancer: A background in African dance, hip hop, and contemporary works well. Partnering skills and prior knowledge of vernacular jazz and lindy hop would be a bonus. Applying as a circus performer: In colour requires a high level circus professional performer with dance ability. Preferred disciplines are hat manipulation, cyr wheel, acrobatics and juggling. Would also consider Chinese pole. Additional skills we are interested in: Playing a musical instrument, singing. We are looking for an excellent human with good inter-human skills that we would enjoy being on tour with! We would like to work with performers who are open to create and contribute towards our theme and narrative in the continued development of the show. We are looking to cast 1 possibly 2 new artists, and are especially interested in hearing from ethnic minority performers. Fees: Professionally paid work. Equity minimum.
