GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB FUNCTION:
A key position of the Virginia Stage Company, the Sound Supervisor is primarily responsible for executing the installation, operation, and strike of sound and projection equipment for all VSC productions and special events. The Sound Supervisor is also the primary console operator for all performances.
COMPENSATION:
Salary is $600.00 per week and includes the following benefits: 7 PTO days, 10 vacation days, medical coverage with modest employee share, free parking, and other coverages.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES + RESPONSIBILITIES
● Execute sound installation, running of show and strike of all VSC productions and special events.
● Maintain and repair inventory of equipment including in-house sound and video systems, touring sound
systems, ClearCom communication systems, house paging systems, and support systems to dressing
rooms, green room and other backstage areas.
● Ensure the feeds to VSC+rsquo;s hearing assist system (Loop Listen Technologies) are clear and operational by
troubleshooting and recommending repairs/upgrades to keep them functional.
● A1 duties as assigned throughout the season, to include programming and mixing of live audio for all
productions.
● Audio Engineer will be expected to assist the Lighting Department on any additional needs as assigned
by the Lighting and Sound Supervisor. Skills and Abilities
● Proficiency in programming and operation of QLab software
● Proficiency using MacOS and Windows Operating Systems
● Experience with Dante Networking software, Yamaha Digital Consoles, and ClearCom Communication
systems a must
● Working knowledge of other digital and analog audio consoles, equalizers, amplifiers, microphones,
speakers, monitors, in-ear monitoring systems, projectors and video projection systems, cabling, wiring,
and audio/video recording and editing.
● Ability to read and interpret paperwork; including sound plot, signal flow, processing, cueing notes and
cue sheets to document productions.
Education and Experience
● A Bachelor+rsquo;s Degree in theatre, a related field, or equivalent experience is required.
● Demonstrated skills in live mixing are preferred.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
● Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral
vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
● Frequent standing, walking, bending, frequent use of hands, stooping, and heavy lifting may also be
required.
● Must be able to lift 35+ pounds unaided and in repetition.
● Work at height on ladders and personnel lifts may be necessary
● 40 expected work hours per week, with hours expected to increase closer to the opening of a show.
● Night + weekend calls are expected regularly for Load-Ins, Strikes, and other specific show needs.
