Description:Job Description / DutiesThe Assistant Technical Director (Head of Carpentry) will primarily be responsible for building scenic stage sets for all our theatre productions. Under supervision of the Technical Director, the Assistant Technical Director will oversee the smooth operation of technical aspects for all Lighthouse productions and rental events mounted or presented at Lighthouse Theatre, Port Colborne, including supervising the Head Technician, Head of Paint and casual labour. The Assistant Technical Director must possess the required technical and supervisory skills and be an effective communicator with excellent interpersonal skills, have demonstrated problem solving and time management skills, and be able to perform all the physical duties of the job. This is a Full Time Salaried position located in Port Colborne, ON. Main Job Duties • Assist the Technical Director with interpreting drawings/blueprints, preparing, then executing and building all stage sets for Lighthouse productions. • Source and purchase all building materials. • Lead the loading, transfer, delivery, set up and tear down of finished scenery at Lighthouse Theatre Port Colborne. • Lead and supervise a small group of direct reports (currently 1 Full Time, 1 Seasonal Full Time, 3-4 Casual). • Backup Show Operator (Lights and Sound) for productions (willing to train in house). • Assist with show load in’s and setup at Lighthouse Theatre Port Dover when scheduled. •Assist the Front of House Manager and Head Technician with building maintenance •Help maintain the cleanliness of the workshop, theatre space, backstage, booth and dressing room areas. •Attend all meetings, production and crew meetings, as scheduled by the Technical Director/Production Manager. Other duties as may be assigned by the Technical Director. Qualifications / Required Skills Education, Skills and Abilities •Minimum One Year Postsecondary education in Technical Production with proven experience in scenic carpentry •Flexibility in scheduling (occasional evening and weekend work required) •Able to work safely from ladders and scaffolding •Working at Heights & First Aid (training can be provided by the theatre) •Valid Ontario Drivers License and reliable means of transportation (occasional travel to Port Dover required) •Strong carpentry/building skills essential •Previous supervisory experience preferred •Ability to remain calm and poised in urgent situations Competencies •Problem Solving •Decision Making •Communication •Dependability •Attention to Detail •Flexibility •Team Focused •Self Discipline Additional Information We Offer Salary range: $50,000 to $55,000 annually commensurate with qualifications and experience 35-hour work week Excellent Extended Benefits Package (medical, dental, vision, life ins, LTD) Paid vacation and sick time more than statutory minimums Group RSP with Employer matching up to 3% Complimentary theatre tickets A hard working, creative and rewarding work environment Salary: $50,000 to $55, 000 annual salary Contact Information Cover Letter and Resume are required.
