Description:Berkshire Theatre Group, celebrating its 97th year as a professional theatre in Western MA, is accepting resumes for an Assistant Technical Director for the 2025 summer season. The festival will have five fully produced productions, plus concerts and special events on two stages. Weekly salary of $800 plus housing and all utilities provided. Summer season runs from mid May until mid/late August. Employment dates vary based on position.The Colonial Theatre, founded in 1903, and Berkshire Theatre Festival, founded in 1928, are two of the oldest cultural organizations in the Berkshires. In 2010, under the leadership of Artistic Director and CEO Kate Maguire, the two organizations merged to form Berkshire Theatre Group (BTG). Berkshire Theatre Group's mission is to support wide ranging artistic exploration and acclaimed performances in theatre, dance, music and entertainment. Every year, BTG produces and presents performances to over 68,000 attendees and, through our Educational Program, serves over 11,000 Berkshire County school children annually. Qualifications: - Proficient knowledge in Technical Theatre or related field. Bachelor's degree preferred. - Previous experience leading a scenic shop or scenic crew - Google Suite basic understanding (Google Drive, Docs, Sheets) - Strong knowledge of carpentry techniques, materials, and tools. - Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings. - Proficiency in using power and hand tools. - Physical stamina and the ability to lift heavy materials and work in varying environments. - Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills. - A valid driver+rsquo;s license. - +ldquo;Hands+rdquo; as needed for any scenic department call (load-ins, load-outs). Responsibilities: - Assist Technical Director in maintaining safety standards during stage operations. - Assist Technical Director in management of load‐in, tech, and strike for all shows assigned. - Assist the Technical Director in creating labor and material estimates and budgets - Assist with the purchasing of scenic materials and supplies including shop supplies. - Assist with the organization and maintenance of stock scenery and props. - Supervise the scenic carpenters in conjunction with the Technical Director. - Construct and install various scenic elements, platforms, sets, and props according to design plans and specifications - Interpret and work from blueprints, sketches, or verbal instructions to complete carpentry projects. - Construct, install, repair, and maintain structures such as walls, frameworks, partitions, doors, and cabinets. - Measure, cut, shape, and assemble wood, plastic, and other materials. - Operate power tools and hand tools safely and efficiently. - Ensure projects are completed to a high standard of accuracy and quality. - Collaborate with team members and supervisors to ensure project timelines are met. - Follow all safety guidelines and protocols on job sites. - Potential for welding work, depending on experience - Assist with load-ins, strikes, and other technical aspects of productions, including transportation and installation of scenic pieces - Sit in technical rehearsals as required. - Attend all production meetings and take notes. - Track + update task lists as needed. - Assist with any summer concerts/events as needed. - Assist or lead other related projects as assigned Expectations: - Communicate information to other staff in the department. - Collaborate with coworkers on assigned tasks. - Handle pressure professionally in high stress situations. - Be self-sufficient in tasks assigned. - Read all production scripts. - Be flexible on job assignments. - Collaborate with the Scenic Supervisor to improve policies and procedures utilized by yourself and others. - Maintain an organized Scenic department. - Represent the organization appropriately and abide by the mission statement. - Demonstrate behavior showing a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
