YOUR MISSION
As the Assistant Head of Rigging and Automation, you will play a pivotal role in leading the automation team to install, maintain, and operate automated show elements and systems safely and consistently. Your duties include:
- Assisting the Head of Rigging and Automation in overseeing the automation team and ensuring the safe installation, maintenance, and operation of automated show elements.
- Serving as an automation console operator, responsible for operating the automation control console during performances, artist training, and maintenance.
- Collaborating with the Head of Rigging and Automation to develop strategies for maintaining a safe working environment at all times.
- Supervising Automation Department operations and coordinating departmental activities in the absence of the Head of Rigging and Automation.
- Overseeing the safe and consistent operation of the automation system during performances and rehearsals as directed.
- Inspecting and maintaining electronic, hydraulic, and motorized equipment and systems, and updating maintenance and inspection records as directed.
- Working with the Head of Rigging and Automation to develop systems and procedures for the automation department.
- Collaborating with the technical team to ensure compliance with established safety policies and procedures, and leading the automation team in adhering to these standards.
- Participating in required safety classes and emergency rescue procedure training.
- Maintaining a flexible schedule for work calls, special events, rehearsals/training, maintenance, and show performances.
- Managing Automation Department documentation and developing a thorough knowledge of all department equipment specific to the production.
- Participating in and overseeing special projects, including the installation of new automated show elements.
- Performing any other tasks and projects assigned by the Head of Rigging and Automation.
YOUR UNIQUE EXPERTISE
· College diploma (or equivalent) in live entertainment, theatre production, or electronics (or equivalent work experience).
· Minimum of 5 years' experience in automation systems or as a touring rigger (experience with aerial/human rigging an asset).
· Technical knowledge of automation systems (PLC, AC motor control, slave systems, control loops, electrical systems), in-depth knowledge of rigging equipment, and general knowledge of mechanical and electronic systems.
· General knowledge of lighting systems and basic structural loads and forces (an asset for each respective role).
· Good general understanding of all technical aspects of a show (considered an asset for both roles).
· Personnel management experience (required for both roles).
· Flexible, autonomous, and team-spirited with good communication skills.
· Ability to handle contingencies and work well under pressure.
· Knowledge of Microsoft applications for Windows and Autodesk applications (both roles).
· Fluency in spoken and written English is essential; any additional language spoken and/or written is an asset.
Availability to tour full-time and to work in foreign countries.
