Garsington Opera is seeking an Assistant Electrician to join the LX team for the 2026 summer season

Assistant Electrician
Garsington Opera – 2026 Season
Garsington Opera is looking to appoint an Assistant Electrician for our upcoming 2026 season. Working alongside the senior electrics team, the role supports the delivery of all lighting, sound, and video requirements across productions and the wider site.

Key Duties
Assist with the fit-up and changeover of each production
Operate onstage show cues during performances
Support the preparation of all lighting and sound requirements to an excellent standard for rehearsals and performances
Operate the lighting desk as required during performances
Ensure all lighting and electrical requirements across the site are prepared and fully operational throughout the season
Check lighting equipment prior to rehearsals and performances
Undertake onstage and backstage cues during performances
Help maintain equipment to the highest possible standard
Carry out additional tasks as assigned by the Technical Director, Chief Electrician, or Deputy Electricians, as appropriate to the role
Personal Specification
No specific qualifications are required.
Essential
Knowledge of modern lighting skills, working practices, and equipment
Basic knowledge of the ETC Eos family of lighting control
Basic knowledge and experience of rigging and working at height
Familiarity with basic stage terminology
Flexibility, stamina, and ability to multitask
Reliable timekeeping
Calm and professional approach when working in pressured environments
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Enthusiasm for technical work and a desire to develop skills
Strong attention to detail
Ability to work as part of a close-knit team in an enclosed environment and to deadlines
Desirable
Basic knowledge of current Health & Safety regulations
Previous experience working in opera
Outdoor event experience
Valid training in First Aid, Harness Climbing, Shark Rescue Kit, and IPAF
Ownership of relevant tools and appropriate PPE
Driving licence and own vehicle
Terms
Dates of Engagement: Monday 20 April – Thursday 30 July 2026
Fee: £9,375, paid on a bi-weekly basis
Training: Full training provided in Basic Health & Safety, Basic Rigging, use of access equipment, and any specialist equipment required
Accommodation: Local homestay accommodation available
Meals: Meal or meal allowance provided on all technical rehearsal and performance days
