ROLE DESCRIPTION
Under the supervision of the Vice President - Creation, the Artistic Lead is responsible for the successful recasting and restaging of Cirque Eloize’s productions on the Princess Cruise Line ship(s), keeping a high-quality standard and maintaining the artistic integrity of the original concept.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Artistic Management
- Ensure that shows maintain the quality standards established at the time work is set in terms of artistic and acrobatic performance, initial staging, choreography, cues, music, costumes, make-up, lighting and sound design.
- Follow up on a weekly basis (or more often, as needed) with the ship's team and communicate updates to Cirque Éloize's internal team.
- In collaboration with the ship's team, maintain records on each performer's artistic progress.
- Actively collaborate with the production team on operational and budgetary planning tasks related to annual artistic control and follow-up.
Cast Changeover
- Plan and prepare cast changeover for shows on Princess Cruises ship(s);
- Manage cast changeover for shows on Princess Cruises - auditioning, casting, contacting artists, rehearsals in Montreal and integration on the cruise ship, etc.
- On the ship, direct new artists (staging) to ensure effective integration of new cast members.
- Per the Creative Director’s request, implement and monitor artistic, acrobatic and technical adjustments and modifications to the various components of the show.
- Make recommendations to the Creative Director for any artistic and acrobatic changes or adjustments required to maintain the show and its performers.
- Coordinate the integration of new performers and/or acts into the show.
General
- Communicate with all performers and ensure that they know and are up to date on the show bible and the specifics of their respective roles and cues to maintain a high level of artistic performance.
- Any other tasks assigned by the Vice-President, Creation, including other projects assigned by Cirque Éloize.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- College diploma in arts, dance, acrobatics or related artistic or production field, or university degree in physical education or related field, and/or relevant work experience.
- Minimum of six years' experience in live show management (staging, directing) or equivalent experience, ideally in an international context.
- Experience on cruise ships (a strong asset).
- Fluency in English (written and spoken), French an asset.
- Excellent observation and communication skills (verbal and written).
- Ability to work long hours under pressure.
- Willingness to travel regularly on the ship(s).
- Adaptability and ability to maintain a good working environment with peers and performers.
- Autonomy, initiative and flexibility.
- Legal authorizations to work in Canada.
