SYNOPSIS
Inner Styles chronicles the internal meditations of Alanna, an eighteen year old popstar-wannabe reeling with anxiety, against the backdrop of a pandemic-stricken gap year. Alanna can't start her music career amidst a lockdown, like she had hoped, afflicted instead with musings about her past and future alike. All the while, an overbearing subconscious— embodied by Harry Styles, who she both wants to be and is in love with— dictates her every move! Inner Styles uses blunt humor and historical fiction close to our own memories to shape an external embodiment of the internal adolescent mind in the opening months of the pandemic.
SEEKING THE FOLLOWING ROLES
ALANNA - 19, taking a gap year to pursue a music career, heartbroken, anxious, creative **Must be able to belt an E6
HARRY STYLES - like it says on the ticket, but also the voice of of Alanna’s subconscious
CONNOR - 19, square, has a lax-bro-esque mullet, an econ major that makes it clear to everyone that he’s an econ major, politically “independent” but everyone knows that just means clueless and fiscally conservative
ADDISON - mid-to-late 40s, Alanna’s mom, researches adolescent psychology at Creighton University, epitomizes the “almond mom”
AXEL - 19, the kind of straight guy who paints his nails and claims that he thinks its so weird that most of the girls that like him just happen to be bisexual
JED - Maybe Alanna’s dad
HELEN - Hippie at the age where she’s too old to call granola, but also too young to have gone to Woodstock; headstrong, cheeky, Alanna’s aunt
ENSEMBLE, any/all ages - features include: TWO MIDDLE-AGED MEN, THREE DEMONS, TWO FRIENDS, FOUR OTHER MEMBERS OF ONE DIRECTION, OUTLANDISH BALL OF MESS, CONNOR'S MOM, PARAMEDICS, and ALADDIN & JASMINE
COMPENSATION NOTE
Unfortunately, this production cannot offer compensation for actors at this time. If the production moves forward to spaces beyond a reading/workshop, then actors will be seriously considered to continue in the production throughout its development, as opportunities where compensation can be provided will arise.
