Acrobatic Coach – Resident Shows Division
Full-Time Position
We are looking for our next Acrobatic Coach to join our Coaching team. The main objective of this role is to oversee the cast of the act(s) under their responsibility as it regards to acro-artistic performance. The Acrobatic Coach will ensure the quality of daily training and performances in all the acts while also managing the safety of potential risks associated with human performance (e.g. acrobatic content, use of equipment, movement techniques, longing and spotting…) for the acts and acrobatic tableaux. The ideal candidate will have initiative to tackle ambiguous tasks and very organized.
The Acrobatic Coach will have the opportunity to:
- Coordinate with Stage Management and the Performance team to implement training programs and schedules for the Artists;
- Determine staging and training needs on a weekly basis;
- Train new Artists and prepare them for their integration into the show;
- Integrate the new Artists and then follow up to ensure that their routine is consistent and precise over time;
- Provide the MHPS with regular progress reports and feedback concerning the training and development for the show;
- Coach Artists in all aspects linked to the acrobatic performance, such as warm ups, physical conditioning, workload and recovery, training schedule, rotation;
- Maintain the ATM on a daily basis;
- Work with the Conditioning Specialist to build appropriate programs and ensure that documentation of Performance conditioning is maintained in Coach Me Plus for the Artists;
- Participate in the analysis and elaboration of measures and recommendations to manage risks associated with human performance;
- Actively participate in the Safety Committee/Emergency Responder trainings;
- Adhere to and comply with coaching professional and Cirque du Soleil standards;
- Write and submit weekly reports on artists' progress, special media events, program shoots and other important information;
- Ensure the quality and efficiency of the rotation system for the Acrobats;
- Collaborate with the Casting Department by participating in the audition process to ensure the replacement of acrobats;
- Help stimulate the development and the acro-artistic sensibilities of all Artists;
- Follow-up with the performance team on any injuries or health issues concerning the artists
- Promote and maintain a healthy attitude within trainings and rehearsals and relating Artists concerns to the Artistic Management;
- Complete all other job-related duties as assigned.
What does it take for this role? The following hard skills are the basics of what’s needed to be successful in this position:
- Bachelor’s degree in physical activity sciences or a combination of studies and experience offering both a theoretical and practical structure for the study of physical activity, sports, movement or circus arts (e.g. Level 3 certificate from the National Coaches Certification Program of the Canadian Coaches Association);
- At least four years of previous experience in group management (Athletes and/or Coaches) and training planning (long-term development); knowledge and/or experience in circus arts / disciplines is an asset;
- Working knowledge of Microsoft applications;
- Qualifications to teach an ongoing advanced-level training for professionals;
- Ability to motivate and direct others;
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken;
- Verification of the right to work in the United States for Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group, as demonstrated by completion of the Form I-9 upon hire and the submission of acceptable documentation (as noted on the Form I-9) verifying one’s identity and work authorization.
