Wellington Lima aka Palhaçada, born and raised in Recife, Pernambuco, Brazil, is an inspirational artist, who has had many journeys in the world in many different fields. They include capoeira, gymnastics, trampoline, performing, social outreach, and spreading his knowledge of life. Wellington’s roots began in capoeira (an Afro-Brazilian Martial Art), which has rich culture and many metaphors to living a good life, gave him is overall substance to his way of living. Not long after he started capoeira he discovered gymnastics, which gave him great technique in all physical movement. He later excelled in it by winning some state and regional competitions. A few years later he was introduced into the world of trampoline, which helped solidify all of his acrobatic abilities. The combination of these three elements awakened his talents that he later used as a performer. With his continued achievements he later found himself getting accepted in the world’s biggest theatrical producer: Cirque Du Soleil. This 30-year-old company has changed the view of how the world sees Circus entertainment and includes over 25 shows worldwide. Wellington has been a part of 4 of these productions and special events done by the company. His career began in La Nouba, where he was the “Red Pierrot” character, which he helped create and until this day many people still recognize him as one of the most well known characters from the show. Other Cirque opportunities that he has been involved include helping to develop the tramp wall in La Nouba as well as helping to develop the tramp wall in Dralion, Viva Elvis and MJ ONE. As for special events, Wellington has also helped in other Cirque productions such as the 2002 Oscars, Sostrum, Cirque Du Soleil, “Worlds Away 3D movie”, an event with Red Bull and most recently, One night for One drop benefit show, where his task was to choreograph and to help create the tramp wall act and perform in the show. Along with all of these amazing opportunities, he still finds the time to reconnect with his roots and participates in Cirque Du Monde social outreach program, where he touches and inspires the youth. Wellington enjoys encouraging people to develop awareness of the body and mind through acrobatic movement and his first love of capoeira. No matter what field of movement, Wellington has a special gift for teaching and sharing his knowledge and hopes to continue inspiring people worldwide using his talents and making everyone “smile for life”.
