Ante Ursić received his Ph.D. in Performance Studies from the University of California, Davis. He is an assistant professor of physical theater at East Tennessee State University. His research investigates circus’s political sphere and its potential with a particular focus on animality, community and poiesis in contemporary circus practices and performances. As circus artist, he received a gold medal from the festival SOLyCIRCO and a special prize from the festival Cirque du Demain. He has successfully produced projects of his own and in collaboration. He performed with companies such as Cirque du Soleil, Tiger Lillies Circus, and Circus Roncalli. Ante Ursić’s research has received support from the German Academic Exchange Program, the Social Science Research Council, and the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, among others.
