Or are your current performances not getting the reaction from the audience that you want them to? In this workshop we'll explore the relationship between the audience and the physical performer, and how you can activate that relationship to kick your act into high gear. We'll discuss what the audience wants from you, how to get the reaction you want from your skills, and how to elicit the results you want from your hard work. We will share our experience, hints, and tools with you so that your act stands out in exactly the way you want it to. PREREQS: Perfect for folks who have never made an act before and haven't even started the process, and also for folks with existing acts that they want to make more effective. Also useful for circus educators and choreographers. WHEN: Jan. 4 from 2-3:30 pm EST REGISTER: https://necenterforcircusarts.asapconnected.com/#CourseGroupID=58993 MORE INFO: https://necenterforcircusarts.org/about/going-pro-constructing-your-act/ —— FINDING & USING MUSIC You're ready to put a circus act together! Everyone begins their creation differently, but many people let music guide them. How do you search for music? What do you do when you find something that is almost right, but not quite? How do you find music that will move your audience the way you want them to be moved? And once you find your music, how do you make the best of every note? Act creation is not an easy journey, but we will share our expertise with you to make it more enjoyable and more impactful. You'll leave this workshop with tools for considering how music works for you and your audience, finding your music, skills for making your rehearsals effective and efficient, and ways to use music to create the act you've always dreamed of. PREREQS: Perfect for folks who have never made an act before and haven't started the process, and for folks with act creation experience who want to make better use of their music during the creative process and in performance. Also useful for circus educators and choreographers. How do you share your material with companies, clients, producers, fairs/festivals, your friends, and more? It's time to make some videos! We'll share our expertise with you so you can satisfy the needs of so many different clients. We'll review the differences between a technical skills reel, an act demo reel, an act teaser, and an act video. We'll look at content, what length they should be, how much production value is needed, who they are for, and where you share them. We'll also talk about basic editing tools and concepts that you can use when you make your own videos or share with the person you hire to make your video. PREREQS: For anyone who wants to start booking professional performing work in the near or distant future. Ideal for circus artists with an act but also great for generalists. WHEN: Feb. 20 from 4-5:30 pm EST REGISTER: https://necenterforcircusarts.asapconnected.com/#CourseID=278716 MORE INFO: https://necenterforcircusarts.org/about/going-pro-demo-reels-act-videos/ —— WHAT’S IN YOUR RIGGING BAG There is that time in every performer's career when they finally get the gig and then realize they don't know what they need to rig at the event, or how to communicate their needs to their client. In this workshop, we'll look at what you need to have on your technical sheet and in your rigging bag so that you can show up and be prepared. You'll leave the workshop with a better understanding of what you need to set up your act, how to pack it and move it all safely, and how to communicate your staging and rigging needs to your client. PREREQS: Designed for aerialists, but also useful for anyone who travels with lots of equipment/props or rigging.
